American Water spokesperson says it does not believe facilities, operations were affected
A New Jersey-based water and wastewater utility company, the largest in the U.S., was hit by a cyberattack, leading to the shutdown of some of its systems. A spokesperson said the Camden-based American Water learned it was targeted by a cyberattack late last week and immediately shut down certain systems, including the billing department.

It's the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the US.
A spokesperson says the company learned it was the victim of a cyberattack late last week and immediately shut down certain systems like pausing, billing to customers.
American Water doesn't believe facilities or operations were hit by the attack, but the full impact is still under investigation.
The utility provides drinking water and wastewater services to more than 14 million people in 14 different states.
And on 18 military installations.
The federal government has growing concerns about alleged work by Chinese intelligence officers to break critical U.S. infrastructure like water treatment facilities.
According to a recent Wall Street Journal report, a cyberattack targeting US broadband providers was linked to the government in Beijing.
Investigators say it's still unclear who was behind the hack at American Water.
